Motorcycle License Types
Which motorcycle licence do you need?
The Netherlands offers three motorcycle licence categories, depending on your age and riding experience:
A1 — Light motorcycle
For motorcycles up to 125cc, max 11kW. Minimum age: 17 years (practical exam from 18).
A2 — Medium motorcycle
For motorcycles up to 35kW. Minimum age: 20 years (20 with A1 experience).
A — Unrestricted motorcycle
No power limit. Minimum age: 22 years (with A2), or direct access from 24 years.

Can I take my theory exam in English?
Yes, the Dutch motorcycle theory exam can be taken in English. We provide English-language study materials covering everything from traffic rules to hazard perception, so you're never studying in a language you don't understand.
Do I need a Dutch licence if I already have a foreign one?
It depends on your country of origin and licence type. Some foreign licences can be exchanged directly for a Dutch one; others require you to take the Dutch exam. Contact us and we'll tell you exactly what applies to your situation.
Can I choose between manual and automatic?
Yes, we teach both manual and automatic motorcycles — you're free to pick whichever suits you better, and switch later if you change your mind.
How long does it take to get my licence?
Most students complete their licence — theory, lessons, and both exams — within about three weeks.
Do you also teach in areas outside Amsterdam?
Yes. In addition to Amsterdam, we also provide motorcycle lessons in Amstelveen, Hoofddorp, Zaandam, Haarlem, and Diemen. If you live in the surrounding area and aren't sure whether we cover your location, just get in touch — we're often able to accommodate more than you'd expect.
